The End of an Era
Those who know me, know that I appreciate the finer things in life, not materialistic per say, but emotional attachments to be precise. Be it a refined sentiment, a genuine story, or an authenticity status, these meaningful characteristics have a special place in my heart. So here’s why I’m still interested in the Corvette Carbon 65 just before the release of a newer model.
Like many true American brands, Corvette embodies true American lineage at its best, sports car legacy represented by an era of cool convertibles, and loud engines. Moreover, a solid contender in the supercar scene, Corvette has always been known to be somehow more reliable & more affordable than most competitors. And to commemorate 65 years of American heritage and success, celebrating legendary superstar status, and instead of loosening up and settling into a nice long retirement, Corvette released the C65 in 2018.
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon 65, is a mouthful of a name, that can do zero to 60 in less than 3.6 sec, quicker than you can say its name. Carbon everywhere, spoilers, side skirts, interior, steering wheel, the C65 looks nicer and feels lighter than its predecessors. Being a daily practical comfortable sports car, doesn’t change the fact that the C65’s acceleration will throw you into your seat. Solid, heavy duty yet very smooth on the roads, it doesn’t seem to be affected by our less than perfect road conditions.
Based on the Grand Sport, the Carbon 65 is a very limited production ‘vette. With only 30 units allocated to the Middle East, this American icon in ceramic matrix grey metallic is a collector’s item. Why? Because this is the last front engine model Chevy will ever make, and is expected to rise in value with the reveal of the new C8.
The interior is simple and sporty. jet black suede-wrapped interior, competition seats with blue stitching, carbon-fiber steering wheel. Rim and gloss carbon-fiber trim, carbon edition sill plates. Everything to remind you how exclusive this car is. The infotainment system is easy to use, and hides a secret storage area behind its screen. Trunk space is good, ride is comfortable, beware of leaving the keys with the wife.
All in all, the Corvette is an American institution, with the C65 being limited to 650 units worldwide, you’d be lucky, to own a piece of history in your garage. An American masterpiece you’d proudly show off for decades to come. For the purists, this one off model remains and will always be Holy Grail of American sports cars.; A priceless emotional asset to mark the end of an era.
